White Pass Co. Attendance Requirements
and Three Strikes Policy The following attendance policy has been created to satisfy the needs of the White Pass Co. and to make all requirements attainable for the members of the White Pass Volunteer Ski Patrol. I. Available Days for the 2007-2008 Season In the event that White Pass Ski Area opens on (or just before) Thanksgiving and continues until the first weekend in May, there are approximately 55 volunteer days in the 07-08 season. 24 of these are holidays and consist of the following: 1) Thanksgiving holidays, Nov. 22nd through 25th. Total = 4 days 2) Christmas holidays, December 17th through January 1st. Total 15 days 3) Martin Luther King Jr. day, January 21st. Total 1 day 4) Presidents' day, February 18th . Total 1 days 5) Easter, March 22 & 23rd. Total 2 days II. Sign-up Requirements Holiday shifts will be accredited in conjunction with minimum days per month requirements. Example: Two regular shifts in December with one holiday shift fulfills the three day per month requirement for December and one holiday shift for the season. A. Alpine and Alpine-Candidate Patroller Sign-up Requirements. 1) Each Patroller shall volunteer a minimum of 3 days per month (December through April). 2) Each Patroller shall volunteer a minimum of 1 day during November (Granted ski area is open on or before Thanksgiving). 3) Each Patroller shall volunteer a minimum of 3 holidays per year. B. Nordic Patrollers 1) Each Patroller shall volunteer a minimum of 2 days per month (December through April). 2) Each Patroller shall volunteer a minimum of 2 holidays per year. C. Auxiliary Patrollers 1) Each Patroller shall volunteer a minimum of 2 four-hour shifts per month (December through April). 2) Each Patroller shall volunteer a minimum of 1 four-hour holiday shift per year. III. Attendance Requirements If a patroller signs up for a day on the duty schedule, he/she must accomplish one of the following in order to fulfill sign-up requirements: 1) Serve the assigned shift. 2) Arrange for a substitute patroller to serve the assigned shift. Upon arrival, the substitute patroller shall inform the Hill Coordinator or White Pass Co. Patrol Director of the change. 3) In the event of unforeseen or extenuating circumstances, contact the White Pass Co. Patrol Director on or before the assigned shift between 8am & 9am with a valid reason for not serving the assigned shift. IV. Alternatives A. If a patroller is unable to sign up on the duty schedule for the required days per month they must: 1) Give reason/s in writing to the Volunteer Patrol Director. Reasons may be subjected to scrutiny from the Executive Board. 2) Sign up for additional day/s in months before or after delinquent month. 3) Be able to fulfill required holiday shifts per year. B. If a patroller is unable to sign up on the duty schedule for the required holiday shifts per year they must: 1) Give reason/s in writing to the Volunteer Patrol Director. Reasons may be subjected to scrutiny from the Executive Board. 2) Sign up for one additional duty day per month. V. Three Strikes Policy The three strikes policy applies to all White Pass Patrollers. This policy is being implemented as an effort to ensure patroller accountability for the days which they have signed up for on the duty schedule, and to ensue that the required holiday shifts are served. If any of the before-mentioned attendance requirements are not fulfilled, the offending patroller will receive one "strike" per offense. Each patroller is allowed two "strikes" per year. Upon the third "strike" the following disciplinary actions will be taken: A. The offending patroller will be recommended to the Executive Board for expulsion by the appointed White Pass Co. Patrol Director. B. The steps for expulsion of the White Pass Ski Patrol Constitution and By-Lasws; Article III, Section B. Items 1 through 3 shall then be followed. VI. Intended Results The optimum number of patrollers per day is 15. This is dictated by the minimum number of patrollers necessary for sweep, chairlift evacuation, and to handle the average number of accidents per day. As shown below, November through January and some of the holidays are short; with greater numbers this will not be a problem. However, these are the days that Reserve Patrollers and patrollers willing to serve more than the minimum required shifts will be most appreciated. VII. Benefits With this attendance policy there are the following benefits: 1) All active patrol members shall receive a season pass for a handling fee of five (5) Dollars. This allows patrollers to ski anytime through out the season, assuming it's not their duty day, without patrolling. 2) All active patrol members' immediate families shall receive a season pass for a handling fee of forty (40) Dollars per pass. 3) All active patrol members' without immediate families can purchase packages of five (5) full day tickets for twenty-five (25) Dollars per package. |
